Signs you need this service

  • The inner glass has gone misty or has water droplets between panes
  • The window will not stay open at the angle you set it
  • The window will not close flat against the frame
  • You can see daylight or feel a draught around the edges
  • The flashing kit around the outside is cracked or pulled away
  • The timber frame inside has water marks or feels soft

Roof windows are awkward and most general builders avoid them. We do not, because we have done thousands. Velux is the brand most people mean when they say roof window, but we also handle Fakro, Roto, Keylite and the older brands that are no longer made.

The common Velux problems are predictable. The seal around the glass perishes and the unit blows. The hinge friction packs in and the window will not stay open, or will not close flat. The pivot mechanism wears. The flashing kit around the outside of the window cracks and lets water in. All of these are repairable.

Sealed unit replacements

When the inner glass goes misty, it is the sealed unit that needs swapping, not the whole roof window. We can normally source a replacement unit to fit your existing frame, which is the cheaper route by a long way.

Full Velux replacements

If the frame itself is damaged, the timber rotted, or you want to upgrade to a modern energy-efficient unit, we can supply and fit a replacement that matches the existing opening. We bring our own ladders and access kit, you do not need to provide anything.

Areas we cover

Bristol, the South West and South Wales. We will need clear access to the room below the roof window, and a parking spot for the van.

Common questions about this service

My Velux is twenty years old, can it still be repaired?

Often, yes. Velux parts have stayed compatible across a long span of years. Even if the original is no longer made, the replacement units are usually a direct fit into the existing frame.

Do you work on Fakro, Keylite and Roto too?

Yes. Velux is the household name but we know our way around the other brands as well.

Will you make a mess of my ceiling?

No. The Velux opening goes from outside to inside, so the work is mostly above the roof line. The inside is left as we found it.

Common Questions

About working with Mr Window Repairs

Do you offer free quotes?

Yes, all our quotes are free with no obligation. We come to your property, look at the job properly, and give you a written quote you can take away and think about. We do not do high-pressure sales calls afterwards.

What areas do you cover?

We cover Bristol and the whole BS postcode area, out into Somerset, Gloucestershire, Bath, Weston-super-Mare, and across the Severn Bridge into Newport, Cardiff, Swansea and the South Wales valleys. For larger jobs we will travel further. If you are not sure, ring and ask.

How quickly can you come out?

For emergencies such as broken windows that have left a house insecure, we aim for the same day wherever we can fit it in. For standard repairs, normally within the same week. We will tell you a real time when you ring, not a guess.

Do you guarantee your work?

Yes. All our workmanship comes with a twelve month guarantee. Sealed units have a manufacturer warranty on top of that, normally five or ten years depending on the unit. We are not a fly-by-night outfit, we live and work here.

Are you VAT registered and insured?

Yes to both. Full public liability insurance and VAT registered. Happy to provide certificates on request, particularly for commercial and landlord jobs.

What hours do you work?

Monday to Saturday, 6am to 10pm. We work some Sundays for commercial premises that trade Monday to Saturday. Ring us, tell us what time suits you, and we will fit around it where we can.
