Signs you need this service

  • The window is misty or fogged on the inside and wiping it does nothing
  • There are visible water droplets between the two panes of glass
  • The unit is cracked, chipped or has a hole through it
  • The seal around the edge of the unit has perished or pulled away
  • You can feel a draught even when the window is fully closed

Double glazing fails. The seals give up, moisture gets between the panes, and what used to be a clear window turns misty or fogged on the inside. Sometimes the unit cracks from a stray football, a settling frame, or a bad knock. Whatever the cause, the glass needs swapping.

That is the job we do every week. We measure the failed unit, order a like for like replacement in the right thickness and spec, and come back to fit it. In most cases the frame is fine and only the sealed unit itself needs changing, which keeps the cost down. We work on uPVC, aluminium and timber frames.

What we do

We take off the beading, lift the old unit out without damaging the frame, dress the rebate properly, set the new unit on the right packers, and re-bead. The whole job is usually done in under an hour per window once the glass is on site. We clear up the broken glass and the old unit goes with us.

Lead times

Standard clear double glazed units we can usually get within three to five working days. Patterned, low-iron, toughened or acoustic units take a touch longer because the glass works cut them to order. We will tell you the realistic timing when we measure up, not later.

Areas we cover

Bristol, Bath, Weston-super-Mare, Clevedon, Portishead, the whole BS postcode area and out into Somerset, Gloucestershire and across the bridge into Newport, Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan. If you are nearby and not sure, ring and ask.

Common questions about this service

Do I need to replace the whole window?

Almost never. If the frame is in reasonable shape it is the sealed unit that has failed, not the window itself. We swap the unit and leave the frame alone.

How long does the job take on the day?

Most sealed unit swaps take under an hour per window once the glass is on site. A typical three-window house we knock out in half a day.

Can you match patterned, frosted or coloured glass?

Yes. There are standard patterns the glass works carry in stock, and others that take a bit longer to order. Bring us a photo and we will tell you what it is.

Common Questions

About working with Mr Window Repairs

Do you offer free quotes?

Yes, all our quotes are free with no obligation. We come to your property, look at the job properly, and give you a written quote you can take away and think about. We do not do high-pressure sales calls afterwards.

What areas do you cover?

We cover Bristol and the whole BS postcode area, out into Somerset, Gloucestershire, Bath, Weston-super-Mare, and across the Severn Bridge into Newport, Cardiff, Swansea and the South Wales valleys. For larger jobs we will travel further. If you are not sure, ring and ask.

How quickly can you come out?

For emergencies such as broken windows that have left a house insecure, we aim for the same day wherever we can fit it in. For standard repairs, normally within the same week. We will tell you a real time when you ring, not a guess.

Do you guarantee your work?

Yes. All our workmanship comes with a twelve month guarantee. Sealed units have a manufacturer warranty on top of that, normally five or ten years depending on the unit. We are not a fly-by-night outfit, we live and work here.

Are you VAT registered and insured?

Yes to both. Full public liability insurance and VAT registered. Happy to provide certificates on request, particularly for commercial and landlord jobs.

What hours do you work?

Monday to Saturday, 6am to 10pm. We work some Sundays for commercial premises that trade Monday to Saturday. Ring us, tell us what time suits you, and we will fit around it where we can.
