Signs you need this service

  • You live near a busy road, motorway or main bus route
  • The house is under a flightpath or near a railway line
  • Conversation or music from neighbours is clearly audible inside
  • You have a home office or recording space that needs to be quiet
  • Existing single or thin double glazing is letting too much noise through

If you live near a busy road, a railway, a flightpath or a noisy neighbour, single glazing or thin double glazing does not cut it. Modern acoustic glazing is built specifically to slow sound waves down before they reach your room, and the difference inside is noticeable from the first day.

Acoustic glass is made by laminating two panes together with a special interlayer that absorbs sound rather than letting it pass through. Combined with a wider cavity and the right inner pane thickness, a properly specified acoustic unit can cut perceived noise by a long way.

How much quieter, honestly

The decibel reduction depends on the unit you choose and what the existing window is. Going from a tired old single glazed sash to a proper acoustic sealed unit can drop perceived noise to a fraction of what it was. Going from standard double glazing to acoustic is a more modest improvement but still useful in a bedroom near a road.

When acoustic glass is not enough

If the noise is coming through the wall, the roof, or around the window frame, better glass alone will not fix it. We will say so. We are not interested in selling you a unit that will not solve your problem.

Areas we cover

Bristol, the South West and South Wales. We measure, quote, order and fit. The whole job is usually three to four weeks from first visit to fitted.

Common questions about this service

How much quieter will it actually be?

It depends what you have now and what you upgrade to. Going from a tired single glazed sash to a proper acoustic unit can drop perceived noise to a small fraction of what it was. Going from standard double to acoustic is more modest but still useful.

Can you fit acoustic glass into my existing window frames?

In most cases yes. The frame stays, the sealed unit gets swapped. We measure and check the rebate depth first to make sure the new unit will fit.

What if the noise is coming through the wall, not the window?

Then new glass will not solve it and we will tell you so. We are not interested in selling you a unit that will not actually fix the problem.

Common Questions

About working with Mr Window Repairs

Do you offer free quotes?

Yes, all our quotes are free with no obligation. We come to your property, look at the job properly, and give you a written quote you can take away and think about. We do not do high-pressure sales calls afterwards.

What areas do you cover?

We cover Bristol and the whole BS postcode area, out into Somerset, Gloucestershire, Bath, Weston-super-Mare, and across the Severn Bridge into Newport, Cardiff, Swansea and the South Wales valleys. For larger jobs we will travel further. If you are not sure, ring and ask.

How quickly can you come out?

For emergencies such as broken windows that have left a house insecure, we aim for the same day wherever we can fit it in. For standard repairs, normally within the same week. We will tell you a real time when you ring, not a guess.

Do you guarantee your work?

Yes. All our workmanship comes with a twelve month guarantee. Sealed units have a manufacturer warranty on top of that, normally five or ten years depending on the unit. We are not a fly-by-night outfit, we live and work here.

Are you VAT registered and insured?

Yes to both. Full public liability insurance and VAT registered. Happy to provide certificates on request, particularly for commercial and landlord jobs.

What hours do you work?

Monday to Saturday, 6am to 10pm. We work some Sundays for commercial premises that trade Monday to Saturday. Ring us, tell us what time suits you, and we will fit around it where we can.
