Signs you need this service

  • Heating bills have crept up year on year
  • Rooms feel cold near windows even when the heating is on
  • Condensation forms on the inside of the glass in winter
  • The double glazing is more than fifteen or twenty years old
  • You want to upgrade ahead of an EPC inspection or sale

Heat goes out through windows and doors faster than through any other part of the building envelope. Old double glazing was a big step forward from single glazing in the 1980s, but a 30-year-old sealed unit is doing nowhere near the job of a modern energy-efficient one.

Modern insulating glass uses a low emissivity coating on the inside of one of the panes that reflects warmth back into the room. The cavity between the panes is filled with argon gas, which is denser than air and slows heat transfer. The result is a unit that keeps rooms warmer in winter, helps with overheating in summer, and reduces condensation on the inside of the glass.

Window Energy Ratings

Modern glazing is rated A++ down to E, the same way fridges are. Most replacement units we fit are A or A+ rated. We can quote A++ if you want the absolute best, but the cost difference rarely pays back inside ten years.

Triple glazing

We fit triple glazing too. It is genuinely better for thermal and acoustic performance, but it is heavier and not all existing frames will take the extra weight, so we check the frame first. For a typical Bristol terrace, upgrading from old double glazing to good modern A-rated double will give most of the benefit at half the cost of triple.

Areas we cover

Bristol, the South West and South Wales. We quote in writing, fit promptly, and leave the place clean.

Common questions about this service

Is triple glazing worth the extra cost?

It is genuinely better, but the payback time is long. For most Bristol terraces, a good A-rated double glazed unit gives most of the benefit at half the cost. We will be straight with you about whether triple makes sense for your house.

Why is there condensation on my new glass?

Condensation on the inside surface of the inside pane is a humidity issue inside the room, not a glass fault. Modern glass is so well insulated that any moist room air now hits a cold pane and gives up its water. Better ventilation usually solves it.

Will new glass really cut my heating bill?

If you are coming from old failed double glazing or single glazing, yes, noticeably. If you are coming from decent modern double glazing the change is smaller. Honest answer.

Common Questions

About working with Mr Window Repairs

Do you offer free quotes?

Yes, all our quotes are free with no obligation. We come to your property, look at the job properly, and give you a written quote you can take away and think about. We do not do high-pressure sales calls afterwards.

What areas do you cover?

We cover Bristol and the whole BS postcode area, out into Somerset, Gloucestershire, Bath, Weston-super-Mare, and across the Severn Bridge into Newport, Cardiff, Swansea and the South Wales valleys. For larger jobs we will travel further. If you are not sure, ring and ask.

How quickly can you come out?

For emergencies such as broken windows that have left a house insecure, we aim for the same day wherever we can fit it in. For standard repairs, normally within the same week. We will tell you a real time when you ring, not a guess.

Do you guarantee your work?

Yes. All our workmanship comes with a twelve month guarantee. Sealed units have a manufacturer warranty on top of that, normally five or ten years depending on the unit. We are not a fly-by-night outfit, we live and work here.

Are you VAT registered and insured?

Yes to both. Full public liability insurance and VAT registered. Happy to provide certificates on request, particularly for commercial and landlord jobs.

What hours do you work?

Monday to Saturday, 6am to 10pm. We work some Sundays for commercial premises that trade Monday to Saturday. Ring us, tell us what time suits you, and we will fit around it where we can.
